Hayden Hewes

Hayden C. Hewes was a true pioneer in the field of UFO research, dedicating his life to uncovering the truth behind the mysterious phenomena that continue to captivate humanity. He established the International UFO Bureau (IUFOB) in 1957 at just 16 years old, while still a high school student in Oklahoma City. Driven by an insatiable curiosity, Hewes reached out to diplomats, military officials, and space program members to gather their insights on UFOs. One of his most notable early actions was contacting Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev during the Cold War to inquire about Russian UFOs. This bold move led to a reply from Khrushchev himself and brought a teenaged Hewes to the attention of the FBI, culminating in a visit from the notorious "Men in Black." Rather than deterring him, this encounter only deepened his resolve to seek the truth.

As one of the few UFO organizations of its time, the IUFOB grew rapidly under Hewes' leadership, attracting members from across the globe. His weekly radio show captivated over 1 million listeners, and his national column reached more than 2 million people each week. Throughout his career, Hewes investigated some of the most renowned UFO cases in history, leaving an indelible mark on the field. Although we tragically lost him in 2017, his legacy continues to inspire the pursuit of knowledge and truth. With the generous donation of his archives by his widow, Bonnie Hewes, his invaluable work remains a guiding force for future generations of UFO researchers.

At the modern-day International UFO Bureau, we honor the incredible foundation that Hayden Hewes built, while advancing his vision through cutting-edge technology and innovative research. We are committed to preserving his legacy while embracing new methodologies that reflect the needs of today’s global community. With a renewed focus on strategic data analysis, cross-sector collaboration, and expanding public understanding, we strive to continue the mission that Hayden so passionately started—ensuring his vision not only endures but grows stronger in the face of today’s UFO and UAP landscape.

The Jimmy Carter Report

The IUFOB is the only organization to have a UFO report filed by a former President. When Jimmy Carter saw an unexplained object while on the campaign trail, Hayden Hewes wrote to him and asked him to file an official report with the Bureau. Incredibly, he did! You can read the original, hand written report from our archives!
